Troop 552 and Make a Difference Day

Becky, 11, Indiana
National Make a Difference Day (October 28, 2006) was a day my troop decided to make a difference in our community. We wanted to do the biggest clothing drive a single Girl Scout troop had ever done.

Emily, 11, Indiana
My troop and I got the information out to other families by making flyers and then going door-to-door collecting the clothes that the family had already bagged up. In addition, we made one BIG day for anyone to come and donate clothes. That day was Make a Difference Day.

Kalie, 12, Indiana
Seeing the looks on each of our faces when the bags came in that day was wonderful. Having the blasting music from WFMS Country Radio who visited our event, the smell of cooking hot dogs on the grill that were donated, running around with bags in our hands and loading the S.O.S. storage truck with bags—not to mention the free storage unit provided by S.O.S.—made this so much fun.

Jule, 11, Indiana
We collected over 1,000 bags of gently used clothes, and Goodwill gave us a $5 voucher for each bag. This allowed us to donate over $5,000 to help Prevail. Prevail is a Hamilton County organization that helps abused women get back on their feet.

Mandi, 11, Indiana
Make a Difference Day helped me as a Girl Scout because I can now look back and say, "Wow, look what I've been able to accomplish. Look at all the people I was able to help."
